What is a cable-controlled Lift-O-Matic mechanism?
Lift-O-Matic is a quick-lift arrangement that raises the three point hitch quickly and returns it to the same depth without disturbing the setting lever on the tractor. On the cable-controlled type this function is triggered by a steel cable running inside a sheath to the control mechanism. The LFT20 and LFT54 take over exactly the outer end of this cable; the LFT20 pulls 60 mm, the LFT54 50 mm.
On classic tractors the position lever sets the height of the hitch. Moving the lever every time to raise the implement at the headland and then trying to find the same depth again is a waste of time. Lift-O-Matic solves this problem: a separate quick-lift lever raises the arms, and when it is released they return to the depth set by the main lever.
In the cable-controlled application this second lever is connected to the control mechanism by a steel cable. When the cable is pulled the valve moves to the lift position, and when the cable is released the system returns to its previous position. The mechanism is entirely mechanical and needs only a few centimetres of movement and a limited force to work.
Electronic retrofit kits use this point. The end of the cable outside the tractor is connected to the kit's cable entry socket; the kit makes the same pull with a DC motor when the switch in the cab is pressed. There is no intervention in the hydraulic line, the valve or the three point hitch. One important rule of use is this: do not force the lever beyond the transport position into the continuous pumping zone; the relief valve opens constantly and the oil heats up.
