What Is Lift-O-Matic and How Does It Work?
Lift-O-Matic is the common name for the manual hydraulic control lever that raises and lowers the three-point linkage on tractors. With electronic conversion kits it can be driven by a joystick or push buttons.
Lift-O-Matic is the common name for the manual hydraulic control lever that raises and lowers the three-point linkage on tractors. When the lever is moved, the hydraulic valve opens, pump pressure is routed to the lift cylinder and the linkage arms rise. When the lever is pulled back, oil returns to the tank and the implement descends under its own weight.
What is the three-point linkage?
It is the standard hydraulic attachment arrangement at the rear of the tractor, made up of two lower links and one top link, used to hitch implements. Plows, trailers and fertilizer spreaders are attached here. Lift-O-Matic moves this arrangement up and down.
Limits of the manual lever
- The operator has to reach the lever; it constrains seating position in the cab.
- Precise positioning is difficult, the lever does not give a stepless feel.
- Extended use is tiring.
- An operator who wants to adjust while watching the implement has to turn back to the cab.

In the conversion the lever is not removed: an actuator mounted onto it moves the lever mechanically. This keeps the hydraulic circuit in its original state, and the system can be reverted when needed.
