Sectional Valve
A sectional valve is a modular valve bank formed by bolting together an inlet section, work sections, and an outlet section. Sections can be added or removed as needs change, and separate flow and relief settings can be chosen for each section. It is common on truck mounted cranes and front loaders.
Modularity makes it possible to use sections with different characteristics in the same bank. One section can be selected for a high flow boom movement, another for a low flow, precise attachment. The connection between sections can also be arranged in parallel or in series; a parallel layout gives adequate results for most jobs on small banks.
- Extra features: port relief valve per section, float position, or electro-hydraulic control can be selected.
- Weak point: the O-rings between sections and the tie bolts; loosening or aging causes external leakage.
- Service: a faulty section can be replaced on its own, which lowers maintenance cost.
A sectional valve gives flexibility when moving to electronic lever control: lever spacing is usually wider and, since each lever works independently, you can choose which motion will be remotely controlled. The remaining levers continue to be used manually.
