Pallet Shipment
Shipping heavy or bulky products secured on a pallet, usually by road freight. Unlike a standard parcel shipment, the ability to unload at the delivery point must be confirmed in advance; kerbside delivery is not possible at every address.
A pallet turns several boxes into a single handling unit. Securing the boxes with stretch wrap both reduces transit damage and shortens loading and unloading time. In return, extra conditions arise on the delivery side.
- Whether a forklift, pallet truck or ramp is available at the address must be clarified beforehand.
- Narrow streets and height restrictions can change the vehicle type.
- An authorised person must be present at the delivery time to sign the documents.
Before opening the pallet at handover, check the stretch wrap, the corners and the base; if there is a dent, a tear or moisture, do not accept the delivery without having a report drawn up in the presence of the carrier's staff. Once the pallet is opened, compare the items against the dispatch note. For industrial set purchases this check is the cheapest step that prevents a missing-part surprise on commissioning day.
