Where should the GRV485 control unit be mounted?
The GRV485 is the power unit that drives the 4 12V DC jacks; it is mounted close to the battery supply, in a dry, ventilated place that the 4 jack cables can reach by a short route. Avoid areas that take on water, form condensation or trap heat. Choose a position that does not block access to the Emergency Stop and Retract All Jacks functions.
The GRV485 is the power stage of the system; it carries both the battery line and the motor line of the 4 jacks. The following headings are decisive in the placement decision:
- Proximity to the battery: the shorter the supply run, the smaller the voltage drop. A long supply run can cause the jacks to move slowly.
- Balanced distance to the jacks: the unit should be positioned at a reasonable distance from all 4 jacks; the cables should not be extended unnecessarily.
- Dry and sheltered: no IP protection class is stated for the product; for this reason keep the unit in an enclosed compartment inside the vehicle where it is not exposed to water and condensation.
- Ventilation: the power stage heats up; choose a point with air circulation rather than a closed recess where heat builds up.
- Access: you must be able to reach the cable connections and, when needed, carry out service work.
The current protection and timeout control are at hardware level on the GRV485; for the unit to work correctly it is important that the connections are tight and clean. You can get installation support by phone during the fitting.
