In which applications is a 6-channel set needed?
Six channels are chosen when three independent bidirectional movements have to be managed from a single remote control. Hoisting, boom and slewing on a port crane; three-axis platform positioning; a door plus a lock mechanism; separate control of pumps A, B and C are typical examples. The 6-channel option is offered in the ST200 series.
Three bidirectional movements require six relay contacts in total; that is where six channels are used.
- Port and yard crane: hoisting (raise-lower), boom in-out and slewing movement.
- Three-axis platform: positioning on the X, Y and Z axes.
- Door and lock: door open-close, second leaf and electromechanical lock control.
- Pump groups: independent operation of pumps A, B and C.
Clarify two points before choosing six channels. First, whether the movements will run simultaneously or in sequence: the total current of movements that will run at the same time determines the supply and contactor selection. Second, interlocking for mutually exclusive movements: forward and reverse must absolutely never be energised at the same time, so use mechanical and electrical interlocks for this.
The relay current rating of the 6-channel receiver is not stated in the product data. Carrying motor currents by driving a contactor coil rather than through the relay both extends relay life and simplifies the per-channel load calculation. For end positions, connect the limit switches in series with the contactor coil circuit.
