What comes out of the box in a crane remote control set?

The box holds the remote control, receiver, antenna, diagram and manual. Contactors, fuses, terminals and cable are not in the set; prepare them beforehand.

What comes out of the box is the trio of remote control, receiver and antenna, together with the wiring diagram and the user manual. Panel materials such as contactors, fuses, cable and terminals are not included in the set; you have to prepare these separately before installation.

Set contents, by model

The difference between them gathers under two headings: where the receiver will be mounted and how the remote control is powered. The choice between a panel-mount receiver and an IP67 outdoor receiver and the comparison between a rechargeable and a battery-powered remote control are dealt with separately.

What does not come in the box, and you supply yourself

What you generally have to obtain separately before installation is this: a suitable source for the receiver supply, contactors and thermal protection, a fuse on the receiver supply line, cable trunking and terminals, and blanking plugs for the unused holes in an outdoor installation. Decide before installation whether the relay output will drive the motor directly or a contactor coil; where the relay output is to be connected determines both the contactor selection and the cable cross-section.

This distinction is not arbitrary. The contactor, the fuse and the cable cross-section are chosen according to the motor of the machine; since the remote control manufacturer cannot know which motor it will be connected to, it does not put these items in the set. Had they been included, in most installations they would have gone unused and turned out to be of the wrong rating.

What to do on the day you open the box

  1. Verify that the model codes on the receiver and remote control labels are the same as the variant you ordered.
  2. Count the channels from the output terminals on the receiver; do not trust the packaging label.
  3. Read the pairing procedure in the manual and run through it once on the bench, before mounting anything in the panel.
  4. Put the diagram and the manual in the panel file; you will use the same steps again when you teach a spare remote control.

On an outdoor receiver, tightening the glands correctly is part of the protection; when a cable gland is fitted wrong the IP67 protection loses its meaning. If you see a missing or damaged part, report it before you start the installation: when installation is left half done the machine stops, and working out what is missing over a partly dismantled system gets harder.

Why the set contents can change

Since the box contents can vary with the product variant, the channel option and the production batch, check the set contents list on the relevant product page before ordering. A different receiver housing or a different antenna type may be supplied under the same model name; the definitive list is the contents heading on the product page.

Before installation

When you open the box, keep the diagram and the manual; you will need the pairing (teaching) procedure and the terminal numbers again later, in particular when you teach a spare remote control. Order the panel materials together with the remote control, so the installation finishes in one go and the machine is not stopped a second time. And do not throw the antenna into the panel the moment you take it out of the box; antenna placement is the most decisive item for range, and where it will be mounted is decided before any cable is run.
