What are the cable guides supplied with the product for, and how are they fitted?
Cable guides and black hook-and-loop straps are supplied in the GS740-3P set. The job of the guides is to fix the routing of the cable, keep the bend radius wide and prevent the cable from touching hot or moving parts. An unfixed cable moves with vibration; that increases friction, hysteresis and, over time, calibration drift.
The guides are not a decorative accessory, they are part of measurement accuracy. When the path the cable follows changes, the same servo movement produces a different stroke at the throttle lever.
Fitting order:
- First determine the shortest and straightest line between the servo and the throttle lever, and lay the cable along that line by hand.
- Place the guides at the points where a bend is needed; the guide must not kink the cable, it must steer it with a wide radius.
- Fix the guides to rigid points (chassis, body); do not attach them to thin vibrating sheet metal.
- Gather the cable with hook-and-loop straps over the intermediate distances, but do not overtighten the strap; crushing the sheath spoils the sliding of the inner wire.
- Check that the cable does not touch moving parts such as the engine hood/cover movement, the steering and the lift joints over their entire stroke.
After the installation is finished, without starting the engine, turn the potentiometer from end to end and make sure the cable does not rub anywhere and that the throttle/lever returns fully to idle. When the routing is changed or the cable is renewed, the calibration must be repeated on the GS740-3P.
