Should I move to an electric system when I already have manual support legs?
Manual support legs are generally for stabilisation only; they do not measure or correct the slope. The electric KTS200, by contrast, measures with a two-axis inclination sensor, drives 4 legs automatically and goes down to 0,025 degree precision. If your manual legs work on the principle of a crank jack, they are not meeting your levelling need.
To decide, first be clear about what your existing legs actually do.
Manual support/stabiliser leg: its purpose is to reduce the swaying when you walk about inside the RV. It does not measure slope, cannot capture the position repeatably, and for each leg you have to get under the vehicle and turn a crank.
Electric automatic system: the ASX103 reads the slope continuously and the GRV485 drives the 4 legs in turn. The order of operations is fixed: ground contact, front-rear correction, left-right correction, fine correction. The result is repeatable at every parking spot.
Switching makes sense in these situations:
- If you have an absorption fridge, levelling is a matter of equipment life.
- If you move location often, the time taken by the manual procedure becomes decisive.
- If getting under the vehicle physically is becoming difficult, an automatic system is the practical solution.
Take care when switching: the mounting points of the existing manual legs may not be suitable for the new legs, and the load distribution must be reassessed. With either system, do not lift all the wheels off the ground, apply the handbrake and use chocks.
