Should a separate fuse be run for the levelling system?
Yes. 12V DC electric jack systems such as the KTS200 should not be piggybacked onto the caravan's lighting or socket circuit; they should be fed from the house battery on their own protected run. The fuse rating is chosen according to the cable cross-section and the current the system draws; since a recommended fuse ampere value for the KTS200 is not separately given in the product documentation, have this value confirmed by AXI technical support during installation.
Electric levelling jacks draw a short but significant current while the motor is under load; since no current figure has been published for the KTS200, the fuse rating must be confirmed by technical support. For this reason the system should be fed from its own separate run and its own fuse.
The logic of a correct installation:
- The supply is taken directly from the house battery, not piggybacked onto an existing lighting or socket circuit.
- The fuse is placed as close to the battery output as possible; the fuse's job is to protect the cable against a short circuit.
- The fuse rating is set below the current the chosen cable cross-section can safely carry, and above the system's normal operating current.
- The negative return is run preferably directly to the battery negative in a proper cross-section, not through the chassis.
The KTS200's GRV485 control unit already includes current protection and timeout control at hardware level; these work against mechanical seizing and overload. However, this protection is no substitute for the line fuse: the fuse protects the cable, the control unit protects the movement. Both must be present.
