How and when is sensor calibration (Tare / zeroing) done?
Tare is the function that makes the ASX103 accept its current tilt reading as the reference zero. It is applied while the caravan is as level as possible and on solid ground. It must be repeated after the first installation, when the position of the sensor or the control unit changes, when the jack mounting points are worked on, and when the system shows a constant persistent deviation.
What does Tare do? The ASX103 houses a two-axis tilt sensor inside it. Since the unit cannot be mounted to the caravan in perfect alignment to the millimetre, a small and constant angular deviation arises from the mounting. Tare accepts this deviation as zero on the software side; the system then targets the real caravan plane.
How is it done?
- Park the caravan on solid ground that is as level as possible; apply the handbrake and place chocks.
- Take care that the caravan is in a condition close to its normal usage load.
- If necessary, bring the position to the reference you want using the jacks in manual mode.
- Apply the Tare function from the web application; the display drops to zero.
When is it repeated?
- At first installation and commissioning.
- When the ASX103 or GRV485 is removed and refitted.
- When changes are made at the jack mounting points.
- If a tilt in the same direction is constantly felt even though automatic levelling has finished.
Tare is not a fault remedy but a reference definition; it must not be used to mask a mechanical problem.
