How is the SAROZ K.E.V.2 installed on a boat?
The installation has four steps: the geared motor is fixed to the rudder shaft and the 30A driver module to the panel; the battery line is fed to the driver through a suitable overcurrent protection; the speed and torque limits are calibrated according to the character of the rudder; the port-starboard movement is tested with the remote control or the joystick. The driver module must be mounted in a dry, ventilated spot that is not exposed to spray.
The steps:
- Mechanical: the geared high-torque DC motor is connected to the rudder shaft. The rudder shaft is the shaft that connects the rudder blade to the tiller arm inside the hull; every rudder system ultimately applies torque to this shaft.
- Driver: the 30A driver module is fixed to the panel. Because salty air attacks every connection in a marine environment, place the module in a dry, ventilated spot that is not exposed to spray.
- Supply: the 12V or 24V battery line is fed to the driver through a fuse of the value stated in the manual. In marine applications tinned multi-strand copper cable is used.
- Calibration and test: the speed and torque limits are set according to the rudder character, and the movement is tried with the remote control and the joystick.
Safety note: the installation must be planned so that steering can continue mechanically when the power is cut.
