What is the difference between the 12V and 24V models of the SAROZ K.E.V.2?
The difference is the supply voltage: the 12V set is for boats with a 12V DC battery system, the 24V set for boats with a 24V DC system. Both include a 30A driver module, a geared DC motor and a wired joystick. Drawing the same power at 24V halves the current, so the cable cross-section and the voltage drop get smaller. Do not use the 12V set on a 24V system.
The two products are separate stock codes and are not interchangeable. The choice is made according to the nominal voltage of your boat's DC system.
- 12V set: intended for boats running on a 12V battery, such as small fishing and leisure boats. It is for 12V DC only; the statement about 12V and 24V compatibility that appears in some English product texts is incorrect, the 24V is a separate product.
- 24V set: for medium and large boats and small commercial boats.
Why are there two voltages? Drawing the same power at 24V halves the current. Lower current means a smaller cable cross-section and less voltage drop; on large boats with long cable runs this is a decisive advantage.
On both models the supply line must be installed with an overcurrent protection of the value stated in the manufacturer's manual; in marine applications tinned multi-strand copper cable is used. If you are unsure about system selection, write to us with your battery voltage and boat details.
