What does motor working range calibration do, and how is it performed?
The first step of the HCT402's three-stage calibration is automatic learning of the motor working range. The system drives the lever end to end, records the actual stroke limits and scales joystick movement into that range. Without calibration, full joystick travel does not correspond to the lever's actual stroke.
Every manual lever has a different stroke. Calibration establishes a mapping between the joystick's end position and the lever's end position.
What it gains you:
- The joystick's full range of movement becomes usable; you do not end up with control that saturates at half the lever travel.
- Because the motor does not apply commands beyond the learned limit, the lever does not press continuously against its mechanical stop.
- The mid-region sensitivity of the parabolic joystick characteristic lands on the correct range.
When to repeat it: when the motor or clamp is removed and refitted, when the clamp slips, when the lever mechanics are changed, or when control saturates earlier or later than expected.
On the HCT402, calibration has three stages: working range learning, direction reversal and remote pairing. On the HCT400 side there is a simpler pairing flow. Since the exact button sequence of the calibration steps may vary by model and firmware version, follow the digital manual supplied with the set. During calibration, nobody should be in front of the lever or within the working envelope of the hydraulic equipment.
