How is periodic maintenance of levelling jacks done?
Since no fixed maintenance interval is defined in the product documentation for the KTS200, maintenance should be planned according to usage intensity and the working environment. The general principle is this: retract the jacks clean and dry after every trip, check for corrosion and mechanical damage at regular intervals, lubricate the moving surfaces as stated in the manufacturer's manual and inspect the electrical connections.
Maintenance principles to apply:
- Cleaning: Mud, sand, salt and road dirt cause seizing and wear in the jack mechanism. Clean off the coarse dirt before retracting the jacks.
- Dry retraction: A jack retracted while wet and muddy carries the dirt into the mechanism. If possible, rinse it and wait for it to dry.
- Corrosion check: Especially after the seacoast and roads salted in winter, check the jack body, mounting bolts and connection points for rust.
- Lubrication: Moving surfaces need to be lubricated; take the user manual supplied with the product as the basis for the type of lubricant and the interval. Overdoing the lubricant traps dust and sand, which is abrasive.
- Electrical: Inspect the connectors, the chafing points along the cable route and the fuse holder.
- Function test: If it has not been used for a long time, move the jacks a short distance in Manual mode and check them before setting off.
