Is it correct to mount the receiver right next to the motor?
Although it looks attractive because the cable gets shorter, the area right next to the motor and the motor cable is the worst zone in terms of interference. The motor cable and the inverter output radiate broadband electromagnetic noise. Move the receiver, and especially the antenna, away from this zone; leave at least about 20 cm between power and signal cables.
Next to the motor is problematic for two reasons: electromagnetic noise and mechanical strain.
Noise. On inverter-driven motors in particular, the motor cable behaves like a strong noise source because of the fast switching edges. Putting the receiver and its antenna next to this source means placing a sensitive RF input directly in a noise field. The most effective and cheapest measure is distance.
Mechanical. The motor body gets hot, produces vibration and in some applications is exposed to oil/water splashes. None of these is desirable for an electronic receiver.
The right approach:
- Mount the receiver on the signal side of the panel or at a vibration-free point separate from the motor.
- Bring the antenna outside the panel, vertical and away from the motor cable.
- Avoid running power and control cables in parallel, separate them by at least about 20 cm, and make crossings at right angles.
- Let the motor cable be screened, and earth the screen at both ends for high-frequency noise.
- If necessary, fit ferrite rings on the inverter output and on sensitive control cables, and add a line filter at the inverter input.
