Is chassis reinforcement needed before mounting the jacks?
Whether it is needed depends on the caravan's chassis structure, and no general reinforcement specification has been published for the KTS200. Since a load of 2000 kg per jack is transferred to the chassis at a single point, whether the mounting area can carry this load should be asked of your caravan manufacturer or an authorised project engineer.
A levelling jack transfers a portion of the caravan's weight to the chassis through a single point. This is a type of load the vehicle does not see in normal use, so the mounting area needs to be assessed.
Situations that increase the need for reinforcement:
- Thin-walled or open-profile chassis sections.
- The jack being attached as a cantilever, away from the rail axis.
- The mounting point being close to a hole, cut-out or welded joint.
- Layouts where the load distribution is uneven and a high share falls on a single jack.
The common solution in practice is to use a reinforcement plate under the jack plate that spreads the load, or a clamped connection that wraps around the chassis rail. However, its dimensions and material depend on the caravan's own chassis calculation.
Since AXI has no vehicle-specific reinforcement specification for the KTS200, the right address is the company that builds the caravan or an authorised project engineer. If drilling, welding or cutting is to be carried out on the chassis, that operation must also be engineered. During the first uses after installation, inspect the mounting area visually.
