Is a radio licence required in Turkey for these remote controls?
No radio licence document and usage fee are required for devices that comply with BTK's Regulation on Short Range Radio (SRD) Devices (Official Gazette 11.09.2012, issue 28408) and meet the technical criteria in the annexes of the regulation. The exemption depends on the device's compliance; it is not a general permission granted automatically.
In Turkey the framework for short range radio devices is set by BTK's SRD Regulation: Official Gazette 11.09.2012, issue 28408. The regulation defines in its annexes which bands may be used under the SRD scope with which technical criteria.
The correct formulation is this: no radio licence document and usage fee are required for SRD devices that are compliant with the regulation and meet the relevant technical criteria. That is, the exemption depends on the device and on the use; it cannot be generalised as "wireless remote controls are free anyway".
Two of the typical criteria defined in the annexes of the regulation:
- 433.050-434.790 MHz: 10 mW e.r.p.
- 868 MHz sub-bands: 25 mW e.r.p.
Besides the power limit, the duty cycle and other technical conditions must also be met. A device that exceeds these criteria, whose output power has been increased with an external antenna/amplifier, or that operates in a band outside the scope cannot benefit from the exemption.
Important note: the operating frequency is not stated in the product records of the AXI ST and SF sets. Confirm your device's band and compliance status from the product label, the user manual and the manufacturer's declaration of conformity. Do not modify the device yourself; even an antenna change can void compliance.
