What does the difference between the HCT402's Soft Mode and Dynamic Mode give you in practice?

The HCT402 offers two operating characteristics. Soft Mode applies commands smoothly and gradually, reducing the swing of a suspended load. Dynamic Mode applies the same command more sharply and responds to the lever much faster. Switching is not wireless but wired: when the blue cable in the set is connected to negative, Soft Mode is active; when it is left free, Dynamic Mode is active.

The difference between the two modes is how much the joystick command is smoothed before being transferred to the servo motor.

Soft Mode broadens the start and end of motion. It is preferred on work with long booms, suspended loads, or requiring precise positioning; load swing and the lurch at the moment of stopping are noticeably reduced.

Dynamic Mode applies the command sharply; it responds to lever movement fast enough to be called lag-free. End-to-end command application is under 1 second in both modes. On fast-paced work with frequent direction changes and short strokes, it eliminates operator waiting. Every movement of the lever gets an immediate response.

By running the cable through a switch it is possible to change modes from the cab. The HCT400 has no such selection; that model works with a single mode and fixed characteristic. For this reason the HCT402 is more flexible for those who use the same vehicle for both precise and fast-paced work.
