Which faults are not covered by the warranty?
The warranty does not cover faults arising from the consumer's misuse. Connection contrary to the user manual, wrong supply voltage, unauthorised intervention and physical or liquid damage are typical out-of-scope cases. Proving a claim of misuse falls, as a rule, on the seller's side; the exact scope information for your product is in the warranty certificate supplied with it.
The general framework is drawn by legislation: the warranty is liability arising from the goods being defective. Faults arising from use contrary to the points set out in the user manual are outside the warranty. The most frequently seen examples in practice for industrial control products:
- Applying a supply voltage other than the one stated on the label
- Reverse polarity connection or use of an unfused line
- Exposing the product to water, dust or vibration beyond its IP protection class
- Opening the enclosure, unauthorised soldering or circuit modification on the board
- Physical impact damage such as dropping or crushing
An important point: under consumer legislation, proving a claim of misuse falls as a rule on the seller and manufacturer side; for the assessment to be applied in a specific case, the conditions in the warranty certificate supplied with the product and the relevant legislation are taken as the basis. In addition, the LFT20 product is positioned in the product description as outside warranty scope because it has no current and position protection.
