Can the same speed control kit be used on both 12V and 24V systems?
The GS740 works in the 12V–24V DC range, so the same kit can be used on both systems. The GS740-3P, however, is supplied as 12V DC or 24V DC according to the order configuration, so the vehicle/machine voltage must be stated when ordering. On both products the supply is taken from the red (+) and black (−) leads.
Voltage compatibility is not handled the same way on the two products.
- GS740: has a 12V–24V DC operating range. The same kit is used both on 12V systems in tractors and small generators and on 24V systems in construction machinery and heavy commercial vehicles.
- GS740-3P: is produced as 12V DC or 24V DC according to the order configuration. State the battery bank voltage of the drilling rig at the ordering stage.
Points to watch in the wiring:
- The supply must be run directly from the battery/chassis, in a suitable cross-section and fused. On a long, thin cable the voltage drop bites at the moment the servo starts.
- The red lead is the supply (+), the black lead the supply (−)/chassis. Do not connect them reversed.
- On systems with faulty alternator regulation, a tired battery or a loose chassis connection, supply fluctuation upsets servo behaviour; fix the electrical installation first.
The GS740-3P has an independent watchdog of about 2 seconds. The position the system will take when the watchdog is triggered is not stated in the product data; for this reason stopping the engine must in all cases be built around a fuel shut-off solenoid. The watchdog is not declared on the GS740.
