Wireless Speed Remote Control
It is giving the speed reference over a radio link, without running a cable. Wireless remote control is among the optional modules declared for the GS740. In installations where the operator stands away from the engine, or where running a cable between the cab and the engine is difficult, it noticeably simplifies the wiring.
In a wired installation the potentiometer signal is an analogue line and is exposed to the noise in the engine bay; over long distances a screened cable and careful routing are needed. The wireless option removes this line altogether, and the control unit is with the operator.
The points to keep in mind when deciding are these:
- The module is optional; it is not included in the standard GS740 set.
- What the system will do when the wireless link is lost must be defined; this is a design decision that has to be discussed before installation.
- Metal bodywork, cab panels and machine structure weaken radio propagation; antenna placement is as important as range.
The wireless remote transmits the speed reference, it does not measure the engine's speed. That is, the system still works as open-loop throttle position control; holding the speed constant under load is a separate matter and requires a feedback module that reads speed.
