Vane Pump
A vane pump works by vanes in the slots of a rotor turning inside an eccentric body being thrown outward, forming cells of varying volume. Typical operating pressure is in the 100–210 bar range and it is noticeably quieter than a gear pump. As the vane tips wear, efficiency drops.
The offset between the rotor center and the body center creates cells that expand on one side (suction) and contract on the other (discharge). The force pushing the vanes outward is the centrifugal effect plus pressure routed under the vanes; that is why the pump needs a minimum speed to run properly, typically around 600 rpm.
- Advantage: low noise and vibration; preferred for units mounted near the cab.
- Balanced type: designs with two suction-discharge zones balance the side load on the shaft and extend bearing life.
- Sensitivity: more sensitive to contaminated fluid and low viscosity than a gear pump.
In a system running with this pump type, lever response feels softer. That feel is preserved when you move to electronic lever control; the Soft Mode characteristic of the HCT402 already serves the same purpose and does not conflict with the system's natural behavior.
