Speed Setup Procedure
This is the ordered adjustment of speed control after installation, working from the low end up to the top end. The order is always the same: first the mechanical check, then cable tension at idle, then teaching the upper limit, and finally verification under load. When this order is broken, the adjustment becomes invalid within a short time.
The order to follow is this:
- Mechanical check: with the cable detached, move the throttle lever by hand from idle to fully open and back; there must be no binding, and the lever must return to idle under its spring.
- Idle reference: the engine's idle speed is not set by the kit, it is set by the engine's own idle adjustment. Fix this point first.
- Cable tension: with the engine at idle, attach the cable so there is no slack but the lever is not opened.
- Upper limit: bring the engine to the highest desired speed with the potentiometer and teach that point. On the GS740-3P this is done by briefly touching the blue wire to GND.
- Verification: sweep the range from end to end, then test with the real load.
When setting the upper limit, do not exceed the engine's declared rated speed. This limit is not a protection; it is only the limit of the actuator stroke. The engine's own governor and protection chain work independently of it.
