RV Overall Dimensions
Overall dimensions are the vehicle's total length, width, height and wheelbase figures. In levelling these dimensions enter the calculation directly: the same angular error produces a far larger end-to-end height difference on a long body, and leg placement is planned according to these distances.
With the angle fixed, the deviation is directly proportional to distance. A slope of 0,5° means roughly 22 mm of difference over 2,5 m and roughly 61 mm over 7 m. That is why the levelling tolerance narrows in practice on long RVs.
- Length: determines the difference in leg extension needed for longitudinal correction.
- Width: plays the same role in lateral correction; because the width is smaller, less stroke is needed on this axis.
- Height: affects the height of the centre of gravity above the ground and the tendency to tip.
- Wheelbase and rear overhang: determine how far behind the axle the rear legs will sit and the chassis strength at that point.
Write these dimensions down when planning the installation: the longitudinal and lateral distances between legs, the free height under the chassis and the maximum laden mass. These four numbers together determine the stroke requirement and the leg capacity selection. Verify the dimensions from the vehicle registration document and the manufacturer's plate, do not work from estimates.
