Retrofit
A retrofit is the addition of new electronic control to an existing, working machine or vehicle without changing its main structure. The goal is not to renew the machine but to give it a specific function through electronic control; the existing mechanical and hydraulic arrangement stays as it is.
A significant part of the AXI product families is designed with this logic: adding a wireless remote control to a manually operated crane, giving electronic control to a tractor lift with mechanical levers, or converting a manual exterior mirror into a power-folding and heated set are all retrofit examples.
- Interface point: at which point of the existing system will the new electronics be connected — the supply line, an existing switch signal, or a mechanical mounting interface.
- Supply suitability: the compatibility of the added load with the machine's existing supply voltage and existing fusing arrangement is checked.
- Mechanical fit: the added part has to seat in the existing mount, shaft or panel; this is usually the one project-specific issue.
- Reversibility: it is planned so that the machine can return to its original way of working when required.
Whether an adaptation is applicable on a particular machine depends on the machine's make, model and equipment detail. For this reason compatibility is not given as a general promise, but confirmed after the machine information has been shared.
