RED Article 3 Essential Requirements

The Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU defines the essential requirements that radio equipment placed on the European market must meet in its third article: health and safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and effective use of the spectrum. The CE declaration of a wireless remote control must cover all three of these headings.

These requirements say what has to be achieved, not how conformity is to be shown. Conformity is usually shown by applying the relevant harmonised standards, and which standards and which versions were used appears in the declaration of conformity. When assessing a product, looking at which requirements and which standards the declaration covers is more informative than the presence of a CE mark.
