RED 2014/53/EU (Radio Equipment Directive)

It is the directive that regulates the placing of radio equipment on the market in the European Union. The essential requirements of Article 3 cover the headings of health and safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and the effective use of the spectrum; the additional articles relating to cyber security and data protection are mandatory from 1 August 2025.

The directive covers every device that transmits by radio; industrial remote controls fall within this scope too. The manufacturer must demonstrate that the product meets the essential requirements.

There are two routes to conformity:

The scope of the directive is only the radio side: machine safety, control architecture and stopping behaviour are the subject of other legislation. For this reason, a remote control complying with radio legislation does not mean that your crane application is adequate in terms of machine safety; the two areas are assessed separately.

For AXI ST and SF sets, no certificate number or declaration of conformity information appears in the product data. Confirm your device's documents from the manufacturer and the product label.
