Power Take-Off (PTO)
This is the splined output shaft coming out of the rear body that transfers the power of the tractor engine mechanically to the implement. Its standard speeds are 540 and 1000 rpm, and the implement is chosen to match these speeds. It is a power path completely separate from the hitch hydraulics.
The PTO provides rotary movement; the three point hitch carries and lifts the implement. One implement may use both (for example a rotary tiller hangs on the hitch and takes its power from the PTO), but the two systems work independently of each other.
- The shaft profile (6 spline, 21 spline, etc.) and speed must match the implement.
- The shaft end and the machine input must always be guarded.
- Before engaging the PTO, confirm that no one is nearby.
Electronic retrofit kits have no relationship with the PTO whatsoever. The LFT20 and LFT54 pull the quick-lift cable and the ELF-812 drives the hydraulic control lever; none of them connect to power transmission components or affect PTO speed. Knowing this distinction stops you attributing a PTO problem that appears after fitting the kit to the wrong place.
