Maximum Repair Time
This is the upper time limit laid down in legislation for completing the repair of faulty goods under warranty. The period is determined according to the goods group and starts to run on the date the fault is notified to the service; if it is exceeded, the consumer may raise claims for replacement or a refund.
The time limit prevents the service process from dragging on indefinitely. The start of the period is the date on which the fault in the goods is notified to the service station or the seller; the reasonable time taken to get the goods to the service is also included in the process.
- The time spent in repair is added to the warranty period.
- If the time limit is exceeded, the consumer may raise a claim for replacement with a fault-free equivalent or for a refund.
- Within the scope of free repair, no charge may be demanded for labour and parts.
The practical way to shorten downtime in the field is to send, along with the fault notification, the information that will speed up diagnosis: device model, serial number, a measurement of the supply voltage, during which operation the fault appeared and the error indication if any. Since many faults come down to a wiring or parameter correction with remote support, sending the unit to service may not be necessary at all. For the exact value of the period for your product group, take the lists in the Warranty Certificate and After-Sales Services Regulations as the basis.
