Maximum Current Setting (Imax)
Limiting the highest current delivered to the solenoid when the lever is pushed all the way. This limit determines the maximum speed that axis can reach; it can be capped before the valve reaches full opening, so that on precision work the full lever travel is spread over a narrower speed band.
Maximum current has two distinct functions. The first is protection: it prevents exceeding the solenoid's continuous current limit and limits winding heating. The second is ergonomics: it brings the axis peak speed down to the level the operator and the job require.
- The current corresponding to full opening is read; going above it does not increase flow rate, it only produces heat.
- On precision assembly work this value is deliberately lowered; the same lever travel now represents a smaller speed range and resolution increases.
- On speed-demanding work such as lifting and unloading, the limit is raised.
In practice this setting is the fastest way to adapt the same machine to different operators or different attachments. The Soft and Dynamic mode distinction in AXI's HCT402 kit carries a similar logic: with the same hardware, a response as sharp as the job requires is selected.
