Key Switch Authorisation
This is a hardware authorisation layer that allows the remote control device or the machine panel to be enabled only with a physical key. The key stays with the authorised operator; someone without the key cannot generate a movement command even if they switch the device on, because the control voltage is cut.
A key switch is the simplest and most auditable authorisation method. Unlike a code or a password it cannot be shared, it can be seen who holds it, and it electrically cuts the control circuit directly.
There are two common points of application:
- Panel side: the key switch goes in series with the receiver's supply or relay output line. While the key is off, no radio command can reach the contactor coil. It is also useful during maintenance.
- Transmitter side: solutions that tie the switching on of the handheld unit to a key; verify from the manual whether your product has such hardware.
A key is not a safety function but an access control; it does not take the place of emergency stop or interlocking. Do not duplicate keys, record how many there are, and hand them over at shift changes. If you use a key switch in the panel, also define an operating rule to prevent the key being left in the on position.
