IP65 (Dust-Tight, Resistant to Water Jets)

A protection code combining a dust-tight housing with resistance to low pressure water jets. The test condition is a 6.3 mm nozzle, about 3 m distance and about 12.5 L/min flow; the duration is 1 minute for each square metre of housing surface, with a minimum of 3 minutes. Withstanding a jet does not mean the device can be immersed in water.

The IPX5 test is carried out by directing water at every surface of the housing with a moving nozzle; the aim is to see that the sealing holds under a pressurised flow as well. The test parameters are defined in IEC 60529: 6.3 mm nozzle, ≈3 m distance, ≈12.5 L/min; duration 1 minute for each m² of surface, minimum 3 minutes. The pressure is on the order of 30 kPa; far below that of industrial washing machines.

The values declared for AXI's ST/SF sets are IP64 and IP67; before attributing IP65 to a product, confirm the technical specifications on the product page and the user manual.
