IEC 60204-1 (Electrical Equipment of Machines)

The basic standard giving the general safety requirements for the electrical equipment of machines. Stop categories 0, 1 and 2 are defined in this standard; supply disconnection, protection, conductor colour codes and control circuit design are also within its scope.

This standard is the common language of machine electrics. Sector-specific parts, including the part dedicated to hoisting machines, take these general requirements as their basis and add to them.

The headings most often referenced in a radio-controlled crane panel:

Wireless control requirements do not replace this standard, they are added to it. That is, however advanced the handheld unit may be, the panel's isolating switch, short-circuit protection, interlocks and emergency stop circuit must be built according to these general requirements.
