Idle–Work Speed Toggle (Idle/Work Toggle)
This is the function that moves the engine back and forth between the stored work speed and idle in a single action. On the GS740 kit a short press of the button performs this toggle: the engine immediately rises to the stored work speed or drops to idle. Because there is no need to readjust the potentiometer, it is practical at the head of a queue and during waits.
The typical use scenario is this: during work the engine sits at the stored work speed; when it is time to move, reposition or wait, the button is pressed briefly and the engine drops to idle. When work resumes, a second short press brings back the same work speed.
This has two concrete benefits. During idle time the engine does not run at an unnecessarily high speed; fuel consumption and noise drop. At the same time, because the operator is not hunting for the same point with the potentiometer every time, the work speed stays consistent.
For long waits, though, the opposite risk must be kept in mind: leaving a diesel engine idling for hours leads to wet stacking and bore glazing. Dropping to idle during short pauses is right; for long waits, stopping the engine altogether is more right.
This function is specific to the GS740. The GS740-3P has no idle/work toggle button; there the speed is given only by the channel potentiometer.
