Harmonised Standard

This is a standard prepared to meet the essential requirements of European Union legislation and published in the official list. When applied in full, it provides a presumption of conformity in respect of the requirements it covers; that is, the product is deemed to meet those requirements.

The presumption of conformity makes the manufacturer's job easier in two respects. First, how the essential requirements are to be met is defined by concrete test methods. Second, when the standard is applied in full the manufacturer can choose the internal production control route and does not have to go to a notified body.

For industrial radio remote controls, the measurements and limit values on the radio side are verified against harmonised standards prepared for short range devices. Seeing which edition of which standard was used in the declaration of conformity is the fastest way to understand how current the document is.
