Emergency Stop Function
This is the safety function that ends a hazardous movement in the shortest possible time and overrides all other commands. Its design principles are defined in ISO 13850. A stop button on a wireless remote control does not automatically take the place of the machine's wired emergency stop circuit; a fixed emergency stop device is expected.
Emergency stop is a complementary measure that comes into play at the last moment to reduce risk; it does not take the place of the primary measures such as guards and interlocking. The heart of the circuit is a manually reset latching actuator: control power is cut the instant the button is pressed and stays cut until the button is reset.
- It can only be implemented as stop category 0 or 1; category 2 is not suitable for emergency stop.
- The circuit must be accessible from every operator station on the machine.
- Resetting the button does not start movement, it only permits restarting.
On a radio-controlled crane the stop coming from the wireless side depends on the communication: if the battery runs out, if the transmitter switches off or if it goes out of range, the command never arrives. For this reason a wired emergency stop circuit is also provided on the machine, and the receiver's relay outputs are fed from the control voltage that this circuit interrupts. Emergency stop button information does not appear in the product data of the AXI ST and SF sets; you have to design the stop architecture in your own panel.
