Dual Axis Tilt Measurement
Dual axis tilt measurement is the reading of the longitudinal and lateral tilt of the vehicle at the same time and independently of each other. Since a single-axis measurement sees only one direction, the vehicle can remain tilted on the other axis even when that axis is zeroed. The tilt brain of the KTS200 measures both axes together.
For a plane to be horizontal, two independent angles must be zeroed. That is why the levelling sensor resolves the gravity component separately about two perpendicular axes fixed to the body and produces two angles: pitch (front–rear) and roll (left–right).
- Working with a single-axis spirit level, you have to measure the vehicle twice, in two directions; if the vehicle moves between the measurements the result is spoiled.
- In a dual axis measurement both angles are simultaneous, so the disturbance that a correction on one axis causes on the other is visible immediately.
This simultaneity is what makes the final stage of the automatic cycle possible: because the deviation arising on the front–rear axis during the left–right correction can be measured, the two axes are brought towards the target together with micro corrections. On the KTS200 the measurement result is shown both as a numerical degree value and with a spirit-level symbol; the numerical value lets you read the decision and the symbol the direction quickly.
