Drop and Impact Resistance
The ability of the handheld unit's housing, cover gasket and internal connections to keep their integrity after it falls onto a hard floor or strikes the load. This is the most frequent cause of damage to remote controls in the field, and an invisible crack forming in the housing invalidates the IP declaration.
Impact energy collects at the corners of the housing. Even if there is no break visible from the outside, the cover seating surface may be slightly distorted; because the gasket is no longer compressed evenly all around, the seal is lost at specific points. The same impact may also loosen the button mechanism, the battery connector or the antenna connection inside.
- Check after a drop: hold the housing up to the light and look for hairline cracks at the corners, check the cover screws, and try all channels one by one without load.
- If in doubt: if the unit is going to be used on a site where it may get wet, no longer rely on the IP declaration; contact service for a housing replacement.
- Preventive: use a neck strap or a belt clip, do not leave the remote control on the crane girder or on top of the load, and prefer a hard case for transport.
The rule is the same for the LT200 (IP67) and LF200 (IP64) handheld units: the protection rating rests on the assumption of an intact housing.
