Direction Reversal Calibration
When the joystick direction does not match the lever's direction of movement, the direction of travel is reversed in software instead of swapping wires. The "it goes backwards when I push forward" situation arises from the mounting geometry and is fixed in seconds. This is one of the three calibration steps of the AXI HCT402.
The actuator can be mounted on the right or the left of the lever; when the layout changes, the same motor rotation takes the lever the other way. The classic solution is to swap the motor leads, but this both damages the connector and creates a new inconsistency in systems with position feedback. Software reversal causes neither problem.
- When it is noticed: on the first try. That is why calibration is done with the working area clear, not with an implement attached.
- What is not done: work is not continued in the reversed direction on the assumption that the operator will "get used to it"; a reversed direction reflex is a cause of error in an emergency.
- Afterwards: once the direction is changed, it is visually verified that the travel limits are still correct.
It is no accident that this setting sits under the calibration heading: range learning, direction and remote pairing together make the system fit the field. Small differences caused by the installation are not corrected mechanically but compensated in software.
