Commissioning Test
A staged verification process carried out after installation is finished, before the system is run at full load for the first time. The order is: de-energised checks, a function trial at low load, then full load and testing of the safety functions. No step is passed until the previous one has been verified.
The aim is for a possible installation error to show up at a harmless stage rather than at full load. Wrong polarity or a reversed motor connection produces an expensive result when the system is first run at full load.
- De-energised stage: polarity check, short-circuit measurement between positive and negative, leakage check between conductor and chassis, verification that all terminals are tight, comparison of fuse ratings against the diagram.
- First power-up: supply is applied with the loads disconnected; current and voltage are observed. If there is unexpected current, it is cut immediately.
- Staged loading: movements are tried first at the lowest speed and over a short distance; direction, limits and stopping are verified.
- Safety functions: emergency stop, overcurrent protection and limit switches are tested one by one; these are verified not last, but before the load is increased.
Writing down the measurements taken during commissioning provides a comparison baseline for when a fault appears later.
