Cable Slack
This is part of the motor's movement being spent taking up slack in the cable instead of reaching the mechanism. The symptom is typical: the motor runs, you hear it, but the lever does not move or moves late. Since the kits have limited stroke, slack directly causes a loss of function.
The LFT20 pulls the cable at most 60 mm, the LFT54 50 mm. If 10–15 mm of that stroke goes into slack, the mechanism does not fully engage. That is why the adjustment is made at a point that is lightly taut but does not continuously load the mechanism.
- Attachment point: the end where the cable attaches to the kit may have loosened or slipped; check the clamping element.
- Sheath and routing: if the ends of the cable sheath have come out of place, part of the movement is spent compressing the sheath.
- Cable condition: broken strands and rust increase friction; a worn cable is replaced.
- Mechanism: the spring and joints on the Lift-O-Matic side may be seized; check by moving them by hand.
The order matters: first pull the cable by hand and confirm that the mechanism works. If the mechanism does not respond when you pull it by hand either, the problem is not in the kit but on the tractor side. After the cable adjustment is changed, visually confirm that the travel limits are still correct.
