Battery Leakage
It is when the alkaline electrolyte inside a flat alkaline cell, or one left fitted for a long time, seeps out and corrodes the springs, contacts and circuit board in the battery compartment. It is one of the most frequently seen physical causes behind complaints that the remote control does not switch on at all or works erratically.
As discharge progresses, gas forms inside the cell and the internal pressure rises; when the seal weakens, the electrolyte comes out. The leaking liquid combines with moisture in the air to form a whitish crust on metal surfaces, raises the contact resistance, and over time eats the spring away completely.
- Rule: if you are not going to use the remote control for longer than a month, take the batteries out; do not leave a flat battery inside the unit.
- Cleaning: light residue can be cleaned with a dry cloth and a plastic tool; with widespread corrosion and leakage that has reached the board, take it to service. Wear gloves, the electrolyte is an irritant.
- Telling it apart: if the battery compartment is clean and it still does not switch on with a fresh battery, the problem is not on the battery side; check the pairing and the receiver supply.
The LF200 remote control running on 3×AAA batteries (SF100 and SF200 sets) is directly exposed to this risk; on the rechargeable LT200 the equivalent is that leaving it in deep discharge weakens the cell.
