12-bit Angle Resolution (4096 Steps)
12-bit resolution means one full turn is divided into 4096 separate digital steps; that gives a discrimination of about 0.088 degrees per step. In position feedback this value determines the smallest movement the system can distinguish and limits how finely the control can be adjusted.
The arithmetic is direct: 360 divided by 4096 is approximately 0.088 degrees. If the total working angle of the actuator shaft is, for example, 180 degrees, that range is represented by approximately 2048 steps.
- Why it is enough: when the entire throttle lever stroke is divided by this number of steps, the resulting discrimination stays well below the mechanical backlash and the cable stretch. In other words, the limiting factor is not the electronics but the mechanics.
- Why it is not increased needlessly: measurement noise and vibration already make differences below the on-paper resolution meaningless.
On the GS740-3P the AS5600 works at this resolution. What it means for the user is this: after calibration the full turn of the potentiometer is redistributed between idle and the taught upper limit, so the adjustment under your hand becomes proportionally finer. If you have selected a narrow speed range, the same turn of movement means finer control.
