0–10 V Analog Input
It is the common analog reference standard in industrial automation; 0 V corresponds to the zero command and 10 V to full command. Thanks to the wide voltage span, the same absolute noise level causes half as much error as it would on a 0–5 V input. The source impedance must be kept low and the signal carried in shielded cable.
0–10 V is the standard output of PLC analog output cards and panel-mounted speed setting units. On the driver side this voltage is usually reduced by a resistor divider into the 0–3.3 V or 0–5 V band the microcontroller can read.
- Noise margin: 100 mV of interference on the line means 1% error at 10 V full scale; the same interference becomes 2% error on a 5 V scale.
- Common chassis: the signal needs a common chassis reference between the source and the driver. If there is a 0.5 V drop between chassis points, your reference shifts by that much.
- Broken line: because 0 V and the zero command are the same, when the cable breaks the driver cannot distinguish it as a fault, it only sees a stop.
If broken-line detection matters over long distances, a 4–20 mA loop is more suitable. On the KS250, IN5 and on the PT500, input E are defined as the analog reference input; since the product data does not state the voltage range these inputs accept, verify from the connection diagram whether scaling is needed before connecting a 0–10 V source.
